MEGAN PRITCHARD INTERIORS
DESIGNING FOR THE FUTURE
My clients have recently purchased an acre lot overlooking Lake Huron. The property line is rectangular which poses a challenge for maximizing the water front views. In addition the topography of the lot is very dense, with a variety of mature foliage which the client is hoping to preserve. The client has requested that their home be designed for their anticipated transitional needs in the future after retiring. Incorporating barrier free design along with structural features that will allow additions such as a chair lift or ramp in the future, will meet their design requirements.
The interior of the cottage has been designed so that the majority of their daily living activities to take place on the main floor, this required incorporating accessibility in as many spaces as possible. This project & design has been requested to conform according to Canadian LEED standards. Sustainable design has not been lost on these property owners. They are looking to add green technology to their home to improve its value and cut long-term operating costs. Therefore, I have incorporated both interior and exterior elements such as recycled materials, highly efficient fixtures as well as finishes and products that are locally sourced or produced to generate 25 LEED points accumulated with architectural and engineering points to receive a gold LEED certification.
