BRANDING... MARKETING... RETAIL DESIGN

The Avenue was created based on the understanding of the desired target market, what appeals to them, what hinders their shopping, male/ female preferences, shopping tendencies, and accessibility. Research showed that the most important features in a store for the age specific market are; store organization, lighting and minimal sound/ music.  In addition, we were able to associate a common tendency of women to prefer a “one stop shop” approach giving them the ability to browse through a variety of products. Men tend to like a more customized store that provides quality products and excellent customer service.

Assessing similar stores allowed for an understanding of what products to focus and design around. In order to successfully capture the desired market we felt it was necessary to keep it restricted to shoes and clothing, with a slight overlap of accessories. The design concept was influenced by the name. Creating a sense of walking down an avenue or street was our vision. This allows for great sight lines throughout, while segmenting the sections to give the sense of different merchandise available; optimal for way-finding purposes. In order to create this atmosphere we designed a raised ceiling feature that runs directly through the center of the space which draws you into the store.

The colour scheme was chosen to entice an outside audience. Using a warm and soft colour palate of browns, taupe’s, and creams creates an elegant yet, comfortable atmosphere.  To draw the eye in, we incorporate accents of gold on the ceiling, flooring and within the store logo. In addition, custom built-in storage displays were designed with back lighting to create visual appeal while displaying the merchandise in an interesting and accessible fashion.
