In addition, an enhanced quality of living has improved the life expectancies of aging population of the “Baby Boomers”, which has influenced the importance of transitional design.

Those afflicted with Intellectual Development Disorder (IDD) often live with family, find it increasingly demanding to provide adequate support as they age. Nursing homes which do little to improve quality of life as people with IDD are not sick, nor are they necessarily elderly, it is just a common location that is uncommonly fit for all. Effectively designed home-like communities fill this void in service need to be designed to increase individual well-being through activities, work opportunities, enriching experiences, and community involvement.
